The flow of traffic is being watched at the traffic control room.
- Traffic violators are also watched by the traffic control room.
- If there is traffic jam or heavy flow, traffic could be diverted.
CCTV is fitted in the following places.
- Central Light point
- Ega junction
- Spencer junction
- Anna Rotary
- Eldams Road
- Nandanam junction
- Gandhi Statue
Functioning:-
The registration number of the violation to traffic rules vehicle is zoomed and stored in traffic computer. The address of the owner will be verified from the data bank (94,43,417 vehicles) and computer generated challan sent to the violator to pay the compounding fees at the spot fine collection center at Anna Nagar, Washermenpet, Mambalam and Adyar Traffic Police stations and also at the Traffic Unit Office at Kilpauk.
In Chennai there are eight junctions are fitted with CCTV camera for monitoring , we are watching the traffic flow and the traffic violators in these junctions at the centralized traffic control room. The traffic violators are noted [ Vehicle Registration Number ] by the operators in the control room and we are preparing the computerized chellan with the vehicle data bank [ 70 Lakhs of Vehicles in Tamil Nadu] and send it to the concerned violators. In the year 2007 through the CCTV 37,600 traffic violators were noticed and a sum of Rs. 5,42,850/- and in the year 2008 there are 38,090 traffic violators were noticed and a sum of Rs. 6,22,850/was collected as compounding fee.
