  • 1. If Speed Breaker required/ removed -How and where can I approach ?

    Approach the jurisdiction Traffic Police. After conducting a survey by the
    Chennai Corporation , they will lay / remove the speed breaker depending on
    the assesment of the requirement.

  • 2. When accident takes place on the road - How can I approach the Police ?

    If possible give First Aid to the accident victim and then admit the victim
    at the nearest Hospital. Dial 100 0r 103 0r 98400-17626 or 044-42042300 and
    thus inform the Control Room who would take the required action.

  • 3. Whenever signal fails to work- To whom should it be reported and How ?

  • 4. When I am riding / driving without any traffic violation and am also having
    the required records and if the Police demand money - What can I do ?

    If all the records are in ordert, you need not agree with the demand of the
    Police Officer. Refuse to pay the penalalty and insist that you would like
    to contest the case and do not agree for compounding. Apart from is there
    any traffic violation committed by you, you will be penalized according to
    the Motor Vehicle Act. Details of the fine amounts that could be imposed
    for various voilations are mentioned in the Offences and Penalties on this
    Web-Site.

  • 5. I am having an Learner Licence Renewal (LLR) -Can I ride/ drive a vehicle ?

    Accrding to the Motor Vehicle Act , You are not allowed to drive/ride a
    vehicle on the road with this LLR

    You are only allowed to ride/drive a vehicle, with the help of a the
    Authorised / Permanent licence holder and the L board should be displayed
    in front and rear side of the vehicle.

    After getting the permanent licence from the concerned authority (RTO) you
    are allowed to ride/drive a vehicle. Is there violation / deviation the
    action will be taken according to the Motor Vehicle Act.

  • 6. If I help any of the accident victim - How would I be traeated by the
    Police

    You will only be appreciated and thanked. Action will be taken according to
    the information given by you.

  • 7. Is it necessary to carry Driving License while driving?

    Yes. In case, one is found guilty for not carrying a Driving License then a
    challan amount or imprisonment or both can be compounded on the guilty.

  • 8. What is to be done if stopped by traffic police on account of a Traffic
    Violation?

    One can either pay the penalty fees against the receipt or surrender the
    documents against the challans receipt and attend court when it is
    expected.

  • 9. What is to be done if the vehicle documents are seized by a Traffic cop?

    One can have his/her documents released after paying the penalty fees of
    the offence in court.

  • 10. Can traffic authorities detain vehicles anytime?

    Authorities can detain vehicles under following conditions:

    1.Driver is driving without license.

    2.Vehicle is driven without registration.

    3.Commercial vehicles driven without permit.

    4.Vehicle driven without payment of tax.

    5.Vehicle carrying a suspicious number plate.
